CONFERENCE SUBMISSION CATEGORIES

The Art of Good Health and Wellbeing, 2nd Annual International Arts and Health Conference will present best practice and innovative arts and health practice and programs, examples of effective health promotion, methods of project evaluation and data from scientific research.

There are five conference streams:

  1. Arts and Health in Acute Care and Primary Care of Chronic Health Conditions – arts and health projects and programs designed to assist in the prevention and management of chronic conditions such as mental health (in particular, depression and Alzheimer’s disease), cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, respiratory and musculoskeletal conditions and obesity. These programs will generally relate to adults and children’s hospitals, medical centres, retirement and aged care facilities and general medical practice. This section will also include a focus on environmental design of healthcare facilities to aid the healing process and academic research.
  2. Arts and Community Health – including arts and health programs that encourage community participation and regeneration and case studies that showcase effective and sustainable community partnerships. Arts in community health takes place outside acute healthcare settings and is characterised by the use of participatory arts to promote health, supported by growing recognition that engaging with creative activities impacts positively on health and wellbeing.
  3. Arts in Health Promotion – creative campaigns, for various age groups and target audiences, that utilise the arts to draw attention to social and health issues and strive to influence behavioural change. Examples include (but not limited to) campaigns centred around anti-smoking and substance abuse, domestic violence, HIV Aids, reducing the stigma associated with mental health, cancer prevention, waging the war on obesity and the promotion of positive ageing.
  4. Medical humanities / Medical Education / Creative Health – this includes:
    • History of the arts in medicine and healthcare
    • Use of the arts in healthcare training and education
    • Practical ways to enable lifestyle balance through creative activities
  5. Arts and Health Research from Australia and overseas that demonstrates the efficacy of the arts in healthcare and health promotion
    • Quantitative and qualitative studies that demonstrate the efficacy of the arts in healthcare and health promotion
